PENGGUNAAN POWTOON DALAM PENGAJARAN DAN PEMBELAJARAN SAINS : KESAN TERHADAP PENCAPAIAN DAN MINAT MURID

Abstract

The inability to have a solid conceptual understanding of the phases of the moon has had an impact on pupils’ achievement and interest in the subject. Therefore, this study which is designed with quasi-experimental pretest-posttest non-equivalent groups aims to identify the effect of using PowToon on the achievement and interest in the topic of Moon Phase among Year 5 pupils. The study sample consisted of 34 Year 5 pupils in two intact classes. The control group consisted of 16 students while the treatment group consisted of 18 students. Findings of the study showed that there is a significant difference in the mean score of the posttest achievement score, (t (62) = -3.54), p = .00), with the treatment group obtaining a higher mean achievement score compared to the control group. Findings of the study also showed that the level of interest among pupils towards the teaching and learning of phases of the moon using PowToon is of high value (M = 4.04, SD = 0.65). It can be concluded that the use of PowToon as an intervention in the teaching and learning of science, especially for the topic of Moon Phase, is able to improve the achievement and enhance the level of interest among pupils in the topic.
