Abstract
The purpose of this article is to explain how emotional reflection in the application of the case study method influences the process of data collection in qualitative inquiry. Emotional reflection in a case study has specific strengths and limitations, particularly, when it involves sensitive issues and vulnerable groups. A case study is a primary method employed in group social work research as it fits the relatively complex nature of group social work practices involving vulnerable clients. The application of the method enables researchers to explore the experiences of a group of out of wedlock pregnant girls who are in a rehabilitation institution. The employment of the technique has provided a broad understanding of the pregnant out of wedlock phenomenon experienced by a group of girls who are enrolled in the therapeutic rehabilitation programme in a public protection and rehabilitation centre. However, the outcomes of the study reflect some strengths and limitations due to the impact of emotional reflection on doing a case study.
