The tradition of Quranic memorization has undergone various evolutionary shifts in approach, aligned with technological progress. The methods of Tasmi' (recitation to a teacher) and Takrar (repetition), which were traditionally conducted in person, have now partially transitioned to online sessions. Presently, with the advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), the methodology of Quranic memorization is evolving once again through the emergence of AI-assisted memorization applications. The Tarteel application is among the most popular for Tahfiz students, renowned for its features in recitation recognition and immediate feedback, which significantly aid the memorization process. This paper aims to evaluate the application of AI within the Tarteel app, specifically in the context of Quranic memorization. To achieve this, a systematic literature review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A number of articles were selected following a process of screening and eligibility assessment. The study found that the AI-assisted Tarteel application contributes significantly to the memorization process through automated correction, data-driven progress tracking, and the provision of instant feedback. However, areas for improvement remain, requiring attention to issues such as limited accessibility and the accuracy of tajwid (rules of recitation) recognition. The study also emphasizes that human teachers continue to be paramount in the Quranic memorization process, as spiritual elements such as divine blessings (barakah) and the traditional chain of transmission (sanad) cannot be replicated by AI. To this extent, the AI-powered Tarteel application effectively serves as a supplementary tool for memorizing and reviewing the Quran.
