The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has brought various innovations to Islamic education, particularly in the teaching and learning of the Qur’an and the science of Qira’at. However, concerns have arisen regarding the authenticity of its use in traditional aspects such as talaqqi, sanad, and the integrity of Qur’anic recitation. This study aims to identify and analyze the challenges and impacts of AI usage on the science of Qira’at al-Qur’an through a qualitative approach using thematic content analysis. A total of 23 scholarly articles in Malay and English discussing the application of AI in the context of Qira’at were analyzed. The findings identified five main themes: (1) AI as an educational aid in teaching tajwid, (2) limitations of AI in understanding sanad and transmission chains, (3) risks of generating or disseminating inauthentic verses, (4) over-reliance on technology, and (5) the need for AI ethics standards based on Shariah principles. This study recommends the development of a Shariah review protocol and ethical guidelines for Islamic AI in the creation of Qur’an-related applications. The results of this study provide an important contribution toward strengthening the integration of modern technology with the authoritative and authentic legacy of Islamic knowledge.
