In recent years, the integration of technology in Islamic education has opened new pathways for supporting Quran memorization, particularly among students without a formal background in Islamic studies. This study explores the use of digital applications enhanced with voice recognition and real-time correction features to assist Quran memorization among foundation students at the Centre of Foundation Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Dengkil Campus, Selangor, Malaysia. A total of 205 students participated in a survey using a structured online questionnaire designed to evaluate their level of Quranic recitation, frequency of app usage, and usage challenges of AI applications. The findings revealed that 47.3% of students were proficient in recitation, 51.7% demonstrated moderate skills, and only 1% were at a basic level. Despite the availability of such applications, over half of the respondents (50.7%) had never used them, and only 9.8% reported daily engagement. This suggests a lack of exposure and awareness rather than a lack of interest. Students also raised concerns about the accuracy of pronunciation feedback (tajwid and makhraj), the reliability of such tools in the absence of a qualified teacher, and technological limitations such as internet access and premium app features. While these tools show promise in supporting independent learning, they are not perceived as substitutes for traditional face-to-face guidance that offers spiritual depth and personalized instruction. This study highlights the importance of designing user-friendly and motivational digital tools, integrating gamification elements, and ensuring Shariah compliance to foster greater acceptance and usage among learners especially in Quran memorization.
