Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Editor responsibilities
i. Editors are required to objectively carry out their expected duties without discrimination on grounds of age, gender, geographical origin, ethnicity, political and/or religious beliefs, sexual orientation of the authors.
ii. Editors are to ensure the quality of work published in the journal by identifying qualified experts to review submitted papers. Special issues are to maintain the same rigorous review as required of non- special issues papers.
iii. Editors are to maintain confidentiality of the reviewed articles.
iv. Editors are to objectively assess any complaints or conflicts identified and should allow author/s to respond to any complaints or conflicts arising from their identified published work.
v. Editors are not liable for any covert misconduct practised by author/s and/or reviewer/s.

Author responsibilities
i. Authors must obtain permission to reproduce all materials of which the copyright is owned by others, including tables, charts, diagrams and maps, and extensive quoting should be avoided.
ii. Manuscripts sent should not be under consideration or accepted for publication elsewhere.
iii. Authors must attest to the originality of the manuscript sent or whenever applicable, obtain permission to reproduce as stated in (i).
iv. Authors must declare any probable conflicts of interest.
v. Authors must safeguard proper interests of all parties involved in studies and to ensure that studies conform and adhere to relevant local, national or institutional standards (e.g. human rights acts, copyright and libel laws, etc).
vi. Authors should notify the editor or publisher of any significant error/s arising from their identified published work.

iv. Reviewers are to alter the editor/publisher of any substantially similar work sent for consideration or accepted for publication elsewhere.

i. The University of Malaya Press shall ensure that good practice is sustained to the standards outlined above.
ii. The Publishers are not liable for any covert misconduct practised by author/s and/or reviewer/s.

Publishing Ethics/Malpractice Issues
i. Unethical behaviour/misconduct (e.g. plagiarism etc.) may be brought to the Editors�/ Publisher�s attention at any time.
ii. A complete and sufficient report of evidence/s of the reported misconduct shall be required to pursue further investigation of the probable case.
iii. An initial investigation shall be conducted by the Editor. The Editor may consult with the Editorial Board and/or the Publisher if deemed relevant.
iv. Minor misconduct shall be dealt with through consultation with the Editorial Board. The Publisher may be consulted if deemed relevant. Individuals indicted should be given opportunity to respond to allegations.
v. Serious misconduct shall be dealt with through consultation with the Editorial Board and the Publisher. Serious misconduct may require possible report to the employer/institution/ogranisation of the individual concerned, as decided by the Editor and Publisher. Individuals indicted should be given opportunity to respond to allegations.
vi. Outcomes of relevant investigations may require any of the following: (a) A formal notice in the journal detailing the misconduct; (b) A formal notice to the employer/institution/ organisation of the individual concerned ; (c) A formal notice to relevant professional bodies of the misconduct committed; (d) Retraction or withdrawal of the publication from the journal; (e) Contract of a formal embargo on contributions/ reviews of the individual concerned for a defined period; (f) Legal litigation arising from possible copyrights violation as relevant to the indicting party. Probable legal litigation arising from such misconduct will be limited to the individual/s accused and the indicting party.
