AUTHOR GUIDELINES
a) The journal publishes articles pertain to Arabic language, literary criticism, rhetoric, syntax, semantics, phonetics, lexicography, language teaching, history of linguistics, civilization, culture, and other linguistic studies.
b) It publishes unpublished original research articles as well as book reviews related to the Arabic language.
c) The article must not exceed 25 pages typed in single spacing. The shorter articles are also welcome.
d) The contributor must submit a soft copy of the article and it is not returnable, whether it is accepted for publication or not.
e) All contributions must have a brief English and Arabic abstract of about 200 words, together with the English and Arabic keywords not more than 5 words. It also required a list of bibliographies that used Roman writing entirely using the APA Style format. The reference source and the name of the Arabic author cited need to be written using the transliteration method used by the Al-Ḍād Journal.
f) The methodology of writing must be academic writing and the footnotes must be written properly.
g) The transliteration must be properly written based on the method used by the journal.
h) All articles submitted to Al-Ḍād Journal will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. Articles deemed suitable are then sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers in the field.
i) All articles published in the journal do not necessarily represent the idea of Al-Ḍād, neither of the Department. The writer is fully responsible for his views and article.
j) The copyright of the article published in the journal belongs to the journal. It can be reprinted with a proper acknowledgment that it was published in Al-Ḍād Journal.
SUBMISSION RULES
1.0 HOW TO PREPARE PAPERS
Manuscripts should be unpublished original research on the themes of the Arabic language, literary criticism, rhetoric, syntax, semantics, phonetic, lexicography, language teaching, history of linguistics, civilization, culture, and other linguistic studies.
Manuscripts should be prepared on A4 size white paper with 3 cm, 2.5 cm, 2.5 cm and 2 cm margins from the top, bottom, left and right respectively.
Centered at the top of the first page of a manuscript should be the complete title of the manuscript and, with title in English if the manuscript in Arabic language, name(s) of the author(s) affiliation(s), mailing and email address(es), then the abstract under the headin الملخص (in Arabic) (in Traditional Arabic, 16 points) and ABSTRACT (in English) (in Times New Roman, 10 points), not exceeding 200 words, keywords under the heading الكلمات المفتاحية (in Arabic) and Keywords: (not more than five keywords, in bold, Times New Roman, 12 points) and followed by the text.
The text should be typed and single-spaced, using Traditional Arabic font 16 points. Paragraphs should be separated by single spacing.

1.1 Language Used
Manuscripts can be written in Arabic, English, and Malay.
1.2 Figures and Tables
A figure, table and illustration should be placed on the same page as far as possible, otherwise it may be placed on the immediate following page.
1.2.1 Label of Figures
A figure, photo and illustration should be labelled with الهيكل and a table with الجدول. It must be assigned an Arabic numeral as a figure or table number; the figure number and title, and the table number and title should be placed on top of the figure and table. The source of the figure and table, if applicable, should be placed below the figure and the table. The first letter of the title should be in capital letter. Figure, photos, illustrations and tables should be placed in the middle of the page between left and right margins.
1.3 Sections and Subsections
Sections and subsections should be given the titles respectively. Capital letters should be used for the section titles. For subsections, the first letter of each word should be in capital letter, followed by small letters.
1.4 Length of Manuscript
Each manuscript should not exceed 25 pages (in single spaced) including illustrations, and tables and reference. The page number should be written at the lower centre of each page.
1.5 Footnotes
Each manuscript should use a footnote system, and in-text note. The footnote should follow the APA Style. The footnote should be typed and single-spaced, using Traditional Arabic font 12, and should be noted with numbers 1, 2, 3 respectively (which can be created by clicking Insert Footnote on the References tab in Microsoft Word). The author must also provide the footnote/sources in English if the manuscript is written in the Arabic language. The footnote should also follow the APA Style.
1.6 Transliteration
Each manuscript should use transliteration in the Romanisation of Arabic words. The transliteration system must be used consistently throughout.
Transliteration of consonants
ء [ʾ], ب [b], ت [t], ث [th], ج [j], ح [ḥ], خ [kh], د [d], ذ [dh], ر [r], ز [z], س [s], ش [sh], ص [ṣ], ض [ḍ], ط [ṭ], ظ [ẓ], ع [‘], غ [gh], ف [f], ق [q], ك [k], ل[l], م[m], ن [n],هـ [h], و [w],ي [y].
− ʾ (hamzah) is not to be used in initial position
− examples: al-amr not al-ʾamr, Aḥmad not ʾAḥmad, amīr al-umarāʾ not ʾamīr al-ʾumarāʾ.
Short and long vowels
− a/ā, i/ī, u/ū
− examples: Ūlū al-amr, Abū al-Faraj al-Iṣfahānī, Ādāb al-mulūk, ʿĪsā al-Ḥalabī.
Diphthongs
− examples: bayt, dawla,
The definite article
− examples: al-Shams.
Iḍāfah
− examples: Risālat al-Tarbīʿ wa-al-tadwīr, Ibn Abī al-Ḥadīd.
Feminine ending of nouns:
− risālah, Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ.
Conjunctions wa and fa:
− wa muʾānasah, wa al-muʾānasah, fa al-muʾānasah.
Prepositions and conjunctions preceding indefinite nouns beginning with hamzah:
− al-istiqbāl, wa al-istiqbāl
1.7 References
References of each manuscript should follow the APA Style.
References should be typed and single-spaced, using Times New Roman font 12, and placed it below the text of the manuscript. The author must also provide the references in English if the manuscript written in Arabic language. The references should also follow the APA Style.
2.0 POLICY
All articles submitted to Al-Ḍād Journal will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. Articles deemed suitable are then sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers in the field.
The published manuscript shall be a copyright of the Department of Arabic and Middle Eastern Languages, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. It can be reprinted with a proper acknowledgment that it was published in Al-Ḍād Journal.
The published manuscript would not represent the stand or opinion of the Advisory Board, Editorial Board, Co-Editorial Board and the Management Team of Al-Ḍād Journal or the Department of Arabic and Middle Eastern Languages, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya.
